What you can cultivate through meditation is the action of bringing yourself back to your breath. That same action can be brought out of meditation and into how you relate to your own thoughts. When you notice your mind going into downward spirals of negative thinking and self-judgment, bring your attention to your breath. Relax your nervous system. That, in a very real way, is self-love. Comforting yourself. Relaxing yourself out of negative thinking. Relaxing into being present and grateful. Being with yourself as your own best friend.
